The Goal

The goal is to grow the membership of the nonpartisan pro-democracy group, Common Cause. There is strength in numbers.

The Strategy

The strategy is to capture the interest of the largest numbers of democracy-loving Americans with art and music and joy to inspire them to sign up and join us and the 1.5 million Common Cause members to build on the strength of this nonpartisan organization in their 50 years in the trenches fighting for our democracy.

Length

15 seconds to 60 seconds might be best. Sometimes longer videos can be effective. The best answer? We don’t know.

Horizontal vs Vertical

We prefer horizontal because you can do more with it and the resolution will be better if it needs editing. It seems now that both have advantages . But the jury is still out.

Food for inspiration

We want to make these works as friendly, inviting, even stress-reducing as possible so they can 1) appeal to everyone and reach the broadest possible population, 2) keep our part peaceful, and 3) let Common Cause do the heavy lifting. 

Most efforts express vitriol, anger, fear and name calling. This mission doesn't preempt anyone from that.  We are just taking the kindness path - a path least traveled - a path with low hanging fruit that otherwise will be missed.

To that end we aim to keep the messages nonpartisan and avoid language or images expressing anger, fear, frustration or political personality. We are shooting for stress-free friendly media that is inviting to all, especially those that are non-political and averse to argumentation. We hope to appeal to persons of all ideologies so long as they have room for democracy,

Democracy is a beautiful word that a few people completely reject.  These videos are for Americans that still have even a bit of subconscious nostalgia for truth, justice and the American way. And actually that’s pretty much everybody. Focusing on the word; “democracy” in our messages could touch on something profound in even the most stubborn skeptics.

Our US democracy, an almost perfect system, in an imperfect world with less than perfect participants, has nonetheless proven to be mostly fair and functional, providing people with civil rights, safety and stability. It’s a system we’ve been proud to call our own: it is our voice, it is our power and no matter who we are, we know it is worth fighting for.
